Abstract
Tuberculosis (TB) remains a public health issue influenced not only by clinical factors but also by environmental conditions and housing quality. The RT 22 RW 02 area in Sembayat Village, Manyar District, Gresik Regency, is a densely populated zone where most residents work as fishpond farmers and traders. While a household wastewater drainage system was constructed during a previous community service project, its utilization and maintenance have not yet been optimized. Furthermore, the dense settlement conditions—characterized by limited home ventilation and natural lighting—increase the risk of TB transmission. This community service initiative aims to foster a healthy environment and healthy homes, as well as establish community-based TB-alert cadres, following the drainage system's construction. The implementation employed a participatory approach involving community discussions, awareness-raising sessions, health education, cadre training, and community mentoring. The program comprised three main components: developing a module on TB-free healthy homes, optimizing household wastewater drainage maintenance, and establishing community-based TB-alert cadres equipped with monitoring logs, healthy home checklists, and early detection forms. The activity was attended by 10 prospective cadres, 5 community leaders, and 10 resident representatives. Results and evaluations indicate a shared understanding among residents and cadres regarding the importance of drainage maintenance, healthy housing, and community-based TB prevention. The program also produced educational and monitoring tools to support the sustainability of health promotion and prevention efforts within the community. In conclusion, strengthening the environment, promoting healthy homes, and establishing TB-alert cadres constitute a relevant strategy for driving collective behavioral change and bolstering TB prevention at the community level.
