Abstract

Abstract

Diabetic emergencies are life-threatening conditions that require immediate treatment. Lack of public knowledge regarding the signs, symptoms, and initial assistance for diabetic emergencies can increase the risk of complications and death. This community service activity aims to increase public understanding of diabetic emergencies through health education at the Integrated Primary Service Post (ILP) Cempaka, Kemendung hamlet, Sekoto village, Badas district. The activity was carried out using interactive lectures, discussions, and question and answer methods involving 60 participants. Evaluation was carried out through process assessment by observing the enthusiasm and activeness of participants during the activity, as well as evaluation of the results through direct question and answer to determine participants' understanding of the material presented. The results of the activity showed that participants were predominantly female (80%) with a diverse age distribution, ranging from 16 years to over 64 years. The largest age group was 56–64 years (26.68%), followed by 16–22 years (23.33%). During the activity, participants showed high enthusiasm, were active in discussions, and were able to answer questions related to the definition of diabetes mellitus, signs and symptoms of diabetic emergencies, risk factors, and first aid steps. These findings indicate that Posyandu ILP is an effective means for implementing community-based health education because it is able to reach various age groups and the topic of diabetic emergencies is still unfamiliar and new to the community, thus requiring further efforts to increase public knowledge and awareness about diabetic emergencies.
