Abstract

Abstract

Elevated uric acid levels are a health concern that may be associated with joint pain and limited mobility. Non-pharmacological interventions, such as yoga exercises and slow deep breathing, may be considered supportive approaches to health maintenance. This study aimed to analyze changes in uric acid levels following a combination of yoga exercises and slow deep breathing among pre-elderly individuals in Tirtomoyo Village, Pakis District, Malang Regency, Indonesia. This quantitative study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The sample consisted of 34 pre-elderly individuals selected using total sampling. Uric acid levels were measured before and after the combined intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The analysis showed a statistically significant difference in uric acid levels before and after the intervention (p = 0.001). This finding indicates a change in uric acid levels following the combined yoga and slow deep breathing intervention. However, the magnitude of the change should be reported using the uric acid measurements obtained before and after the intervention. This combination may be considered a supportive approach to health maintenance among pre-elderly individuals, although its effectiveness requires further investigation using a study design with a comparison group.
